Acute Skills Gap

n

n

n

nFirst announced by ISC2 CEO Clar Rosso at thennCyber Workforce and Education Summit at the White Housennin July, the One Million Certified in Cybersecurity initiative aims tonaddress a serious challenge facing cybersecurity teams – finding qualifiedntalent. The ISC2nn2021 Workforce Studynnestimates a skills gap ofnn2.7 million worldwidenn, requiring companies to get creative and deemphasize experience whennidentifying candidates for open positions.n

n

nHiring managers have become more open to onboarding team members with littlenor no experience in the field. This requires focusing less on technicalnskills and more on key attributes such as creative and analytical thinking, nproblem solving and ability to work both as an individual and in a team.n

n

nResearch conducted for the ISC2nnCybersecurity Hiring Managers Guidennshows that hiring managers are closely collaborating with HR and recruitingnorganizations to find promising entry-level candidates. The research showsnthat most organizations are investing in skills development, and thatngetting less-experienced cybersecurity practitioners to handle importantntasks takes a relatively short time.n

n

n“The global cybersecurity workforce shortage is an issue we can no longernjust talk about. It’s time for decisive action,” said Rosso. “I am proudnthat our association – with its rich history of advocating for thenadvancement, expansion and enablement of the cybersecurity workforce – isnundertaking this unprecedented initiative to make rewarding cybersecurityncareers accessible to so many people.”n
